As a Dual Language classroom, my students are becoming both bilingual and biliterate. Reading books originally written in Spanish is an essential part of that process. These books reflect my students language and cultural practices and provide a model of authentic Spanish writing and discourse patterns. These books will fill out our Spanish library, providing students with enough choice when reading in Spanish so that they can find books that interest them and are at their reading level. Currently, the English library dwarfs the Spanish library and students quickly exhaust the options available to them in Spanish. Having a more robust Spanish library will reflect the value that is placed on Spanish language and literacy in our classroom and increase my students' investment in reading in Spanish.
