Our classroom has a listening center which students rotate through daily in small groups to practice listening and following along while they read. We are currently using a cassette player that plays books on tape. The students are supposed to follow along with the corresponding book in hand. We do not have enough physical copies of these books, so not all students get to practice this skill. If each student had a tablet and headphones of their own, they would be able to use different reading apps to follow along with texts at their own individual instructional levels. The cassette player does not provide this individual type of learning because my students are all reading at different levels. Our classroom also has computers where students can further practice their reading skills. We currently only have one working pair of headphones for our 6 computers. Students will be able to fully engage in their activities if they can properly hear the information. These tablets and headphones can make reading fun, engaging, and interactive!
