I have been working hard on building a music program that provides students with the all round musical experience because it focuses on all aspects of music: the theoretical, historical and most importantly the practical. My students have already studied and learned to play keyboard and wind instruments, and the next logical step would be to give them experience of learning a string instrument, thus further expanding their musical horizons and producing all round versatile musicians who are equally comfortable performing on a variety of instruments. I am therefore aiming to obtain a classroom set of ukuleles to achieve this goal. The ukulele has a really "cool image" in the eyes of many students because it looks very similar to a guitar. In an age where we increasingly have technology by our side virtually anywhere we go, it is exciting to think that due to its small size and great portability, the ukulele is extremely easy to pick up and practice anywhere, any time any place! Instant "live music" literally at our fingertips! What an exciting concept!
