For many students at my school, they have never had experience with collaborative STEM projects nor robotics in their home school districts. Being able to compete in the FLL is a great opportunity for them to not only learn those new skills, but see how other students interpret the challenges and learn from their peers. The EV3 Space Kit is the missing component to the team being able to participate and compete this coming school year, as we have been given several Mindstorms kits by students that used to participate in FLL with other teams and have moved on to other things. While the robot is the most alluring part of the FLL challenge, getting to learn more about space exploration and spending time with their friends outside of a traditional classroom setting is the biggest appeal to students in my school. With the drive to Mars going on by both public and private ventures, many students are hoping to be a part of that history, and FLL is giving them a chance to start exploring that possibility through the Into Space challenge.
