The fourth students will use Monkey Code in class to begin and develop their coding skills, as well as their critical thinking skills, while having some fun. Often their time on the computer is spent completing exercises in math and reading, but Monkey Code is an activity that they can practice, create, and develop their own computer program. In the future they will use this skill to program a robot for competitions. The Apple iPad will give the fourth grade students an opportunity to interact and develop skills using an iPad and the programs designed for it. (Currently they share used Dell laptops using Microsoft technology.) The iPad is reliable, easy to handle, and offers a variety of programs to develop creativeness. It can be used in a center activity with a peer, and when students are ready to program a robot, it will be easy to hold on their laps or in their arms. Students need to be prepared for their future in technology which will include various devices and programs. Exposure to coding and new or different products will help ensure they can develop their skills. There is not a computer class for them at our school to give them this opportunity. Foreseeably, they will need to have basic programming skills developed in order to be successful in their careers. These students, who are our future, can these products can help them on their path of success.
