My students need hands-on experiences to work as engineers, use design thinking, and challenge their minds each day. Coming into school from a likely stressful morning each day can lead into a continued stressful day. Working in STEM bins will be a naturally calming and exciting start to the day. I hope that this opportunity would also lead to an increase in attendance, especially students who are chronically tardy. My students can start off with success by working in groups on STEM projects each day. Students will have the opportunity to use a variety of materials, like stem challenge cards, K'nex magnets, and Zoobs to interact with each other and challenge themselves daily. My students do not have access to materials like this outside of school and need more opportunities to be problem solvers and critical thinkers. The materials I have requested will all go into STEM bins that students can use each morning. Materials will vary from K'Nex, to engineering challenges, and even materials to design and build their own amusement parks! Students will be able to build with magnets and they will be able to magnify things they find in our classroom. Some of the STEM bins will have a guided experience for students and some bins will be free exploration. Bins will rotate day by day depending on our curriculum.
