"When given the choice between being right or being kind... choose kind." - Dr. Wayne Dyer, "Wonders" Kindness is something we all hope to instill in our students-- and so are reading comprehension skills. This class set of "Wonders" by R.J. Palacio will help drive our English Language Arts lessons during ELA rotations, giving students the opportunity to read an amazing piece of literature about choosing kindness. Students will be able to enrich their reading comprehension skills working deeply with the text and having the ability to have their own book to work with while building empathy as we go along the journey of the main character. Throughout this book, we will learn skills such as character motivation, traits vs. emotions, theme, and many other reading comprehension strategies. My students have an amazing ability to engage with text when they have the proper resources, namely, their own books to refer to and read from. Their will and excitement to read about characters that they can relate to has always heightened their attitude and positivity towards reading. These books will help do just that and make reading inclusive and fun!
