My students with autism all have sensory needs that affect communication skills - they need some tools to help them meet these needs. By offering a variety of ways for students to interact with different senses - by softening the light sources in the classroom, offering weights options for their lap, or "body socks" to wrap up in, we're hoping to help them work more effectively and handle stress and emotions better. Many different students have many different needs and we want each of them to reach their full potential. By having many different options that affect both the whole class or individuals, I want to be able to provide a calm learning environment for students working on academic, behavioral, and social goals.
