As my school is high poverty, reading is not an activity that many of my students enjoy. Graphic novels bridge the gap between hating reading and genuinely enjoying it by providing the story in a more intriguing form. Most of the novels in our classroom library are more geared to young women as they are my personal novels from my teenage years. We need more books in our classroom library to give those who are not young women the chance to read something they care about. My goal is to foster literacy in my students by providing options and various avenues for them to discover themselves and their preferences.

About my class
