The wobble chairs and footrest will help students to calm and to bring themselves back into regulation. Students who have experience trauma need movement to bring a calm and peace back into their environment. Drumming helps students to understand the effect of stress on their body by demonstrating with rhythm. Drumming also provides an outlet for students to express and to regulate their emotions. Implementing a trauma-informed approach, means that we understand the widespread impact of trauma and that we also understand the journey to recovery for students. We also recognize the symptoms of trauma in students, and we respond with integrating knowledge about trauma into policies and practices with these students. These materials will help us work toward creating a classroom structure that promotes safety for the student and that helps students manage overwhelming responds to stress.
