My students are a diverse group with various needs. My wish is to create a space that will help my students feel safe, comfortable, and valued as they strive for success in their academics, as individuals, and as a community. Our district is working hard to create personalized learning experiences for each of our students. Flexible seating options allow educators to reinforce this concept by promoting student choice and collaboration. My incoming students are a fantastic group of young scholars, each of whom will bring unique perspectives and strengths to our classroom community. I want to help support each of my students' needs by providing them with various seating options that will allow them to work together, reinforce the idea of responsibility and making good choices, and give them the opportunity to take ownership of their learning experiences. Our school promotes individuality, the inclusion of ALL students, and engaging learning experiences. I would like to give my scholars more seating choices this year to help them personalize their learning experiences. Our classroom currently has the usual suspects for classroom seating: desks, tables, and chairs. Research has shown that when students are provided with choices in the classroom, they feel more empowered and can take ownership of their education. Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to work in spaces that can support their individual learning styles while promoting creativity, choice, responsibility, and collaboration. Non-traditional seating is extremely beneficial for peer-to-peer interactions, which allows students to learn from each other. This enhances students' academic skills as well as their social skills! The beauty of flexible seating is that there are multiple uses for each seating option.
