With the use of 4 Amazon Fire tablets, struggling reading students benefit from assisted reading through audio-books. All students express high interest in reading using updated technology. We will be able to replace books on tape (and cassette recorders) and books on CD (and a boombox) during our Reading Center time. Students will "escape the classroom" and see the world using the Fire tablets. Economic and geographical disadvantages will be minimized when we have access to these classroom tools. The children will increase familiarity with real-world 21st century skills. While Fire tablet use is intended to replace old technology during our Literacy block, their use is not limited to one subject area. They provide an avenue to explore math, social studies and science, as well.
