With the old, scratched up welding helmets my students work with now, they can't see the metal or weld until they strike an arc. With these new auto darkening helmets, they will be able to see where their equipment is all the way through the process. This helps students learn to strike arcs faster, with less time spent getting welding rods unstuck and more time running beads and learning to weld. This will lead to more time spent learning in the shop/lab. Also, it lets these students know that they are as important as students in the computer lab or athletics that have state of the art equipment.
