We have great theater students and no theater in our building. I have a large classroom with fairly high ceilings. The lighting stands and par lights we are requesting will help us to light a larger area. The 6 spot package and the smaller spotlights will let us light up individuals onstage in a way we can't with the current setup. The duvetyne fabric will be made into curtains to use as wings and backdrops, and cover up classroom walls to give us more of a "black box theater" feel. The best thing about all this is that we can be portable. My dream is to be able to mount productions all over the school, with scenes played out in the library, gym, various classrooms, etc. In additions to the "school plays" we can do, we would be able to bring productions to supplement learning in English, social studies, even math and science classes. This project would benefit not just the theater kids, but every student would get to experience theater. Many of my most passionate students began as 8th grade audience members who decided they wanted to try it. In addition, I'll also be purchasing a professional lighting board, giving students the opportunity to learn the technical aspects of theater, something not possible with our current equipment. We are very limited in what we can produce until we can improve our ability to light a stage. These materials would give our students much greater opportunities to learn, create, and share theater.
