Providing my students with hands-on experiences in combination with books allows me to give a multi-modal approach while teaching vocabulary, language concepts, and basic expression skills. When students are engaged and excited, they want to talk! Many of my students use minimal language to communicate. Their level of communication increases when I can provide entertaining and hands-on experiences. These tools would allow me to do that. Playing games, reading books, and incorporating hands-on activities related to our topics have proven to increase both language comprehension and expression. Students that speak in 1-2 words may increase their output to 3-4 word sentences when given the right tools. My hope is to always keep my students engaged and equipped with the right tools to communicate.
