As first graders, students are expected to understand the counting sequence, properties of operations, add and subtract within 20, and solve word problems. The resources requested will allow students a chance to be active as we build skills for embedded learning. Students will work in groups throughout the class to have hands-on experiences while they play and learn. Build-A-Number House and Dominoes will use ten-frame number skills to add and build numbers. Pop & Add games will promote addition facts. Teaching Activity Centers will provide emphasis on Operations and Number Sense. Math is more than memorization of facts and formulas, it is about truly understanding the numbers, their operations, and connecting that information to real life situations for better problem solving skills. My students will love the opportunity to be out of their seat while learning through play. Our busy hands will activate our busy growing minds as we experience powerful student learning with math on the go!
