The purpose of this grant is to inspire engaged and thought-provoking learning in the fields of science, math, programming, and 21st-century skills. Today’s generation is highly motivated by the use of robotics and hands-on programming, as witnessed in past learning experiences. The use of Sphero robots fills the need of 21st-century computer programming exposure while seamlessly integrating a multitude of other learning standards for a unique learning experience. The first objective is to expose the world of computer programming to my students. That objective will be met if each child is able to get hands-on experience using the device controlled robots. The second objective is to meet cross-curricular standards through integrated activities. This will be a success if the post-tests during math and written response in science show proficiency in math/science standards. The third objective is to allow for team building skills to be practiced through STEM challenges and this will be met if each student is given the opportunity to work with a group to achieve the desired goal.
