The class offers our students an introduction to Biotechnology, Medical/Veterinary Assisting, Alternative Energy, and Robotics and Automation through project based learning focused on real world issues in our community. Students will discovery work related skills exposing them to more options in their career decision. We are looking to expand our number of workstations to expose more of our students for our career program. Working at counter height workstations will also allow for a more real working experience. Our class is looking to the future and bridging the gap between secondary and post-secondary education by introducing our student population to Technical Careers or Career Readiness Skills. In my classroom, students learn trade skills like home maintenance plumbing, wiring, and home security. The requested workstations will help immensely. Students are introduced to the skills of a nursing/veterinary assistant, not only with anatomy and physiology, but by learning safety practices, how to take patients vital signs, infection control procedures, and preparing for surgery. Alternative energy is also an option for those students interested in learning about the work of an electrician to better prepare them for the future of the trade. An emphases on career exploration and personal fiance is added into each module to give students a real world view.
