These seats allow students to move freely while seated, meaning they can meet their sensory needs while staying seated. More work will be completed, more attention can be focused on learning, and students will feel more comfortable in the classroom. Students with sensory issues will benefit from special seating. My students on the Autism Spectrum frequently "stem". For those who don't know what that means, "stemming" is the need to move your body in a way that releases pent up energy. Normal school issue chairs can be unforgiving, and students that have that need to bounce may potentially hurt themselves, while not obtaining the sensory need they were seeking. At times, the lack of sensory fulfillment may lead to unwanted negative behaviors, which in turn hinders learning. Special needs students, specifically those on the Autism Spectrum have many obstacles preventing them from learning the way a typical student does. It is my goal to make sure my students have as many tools as possible in order to succeed. This gift would meet that purpose. Thank you!
