The students of California and many other states missed out on so much this past year. Hands-on learning is proven to be more effective at helping students grasp what they're taught. The use of STEM materials and other hands-on learning are 1.5 times more likely to grasp concepts. My students need more of what they've missed. At-home learning was not an option but my extra effort to 'reach them' this year is and will be my priority. Hands-on learning better engages both sides of the brain. By combining multiple styles of learning, the brain forms stronger overall connections and is able to store more relevant information. My goal is to use many different hands-on materials/kits to further develop my students' ability to problem solve, create and bring life back into learning. Sadly, as hard as I tried, I was unable to provide these for at-home learning. My first graders missed out on using these tactile experiences.
