We live by the class motto, "Today's Readers, Tomorrow's Leaders." Every day is an opportunity to grow cognitively, socially, and emotionally. How can we each impact the world in a positive way? My goal is to find a passion for reading inside each and every one of students. I try to provide them books that have characters that they relate to, that look like them, that inspire them, and characters that teach them a valuable lesson. We have various needs in my classroom including an autism lab. Reading can impact every child, and give them a different point of view. I chose books that come from different backgrounds: a child with autism (and his/her twin), a child that is from the inner city, and a child with cerebral palsy. Reading has the ability to develop empathy within one another and gives us so many diverse perspectives. Building a classroom community is one of the most important aspects a teacher has in her classroom. I believe every student should walk away feeling loved, accepted, and encouraged no matter what.
