By receiving these items, I will be able to continue sharing my love of reading with my students, complete activities in ways we before could not, and update many supplies in my room. We have a need for every item on our list. I will be using the class sets of The Outsiders and Hatchet in my English classes. We have a few sets of books, but are limited in genre. Many of my students are not confident readers, so we are selecting books with their life experiences and interests in mind. These two books are amazing tools to teach young adults and teenagers many types of life skills they can use in many situations. The individual white boards will be used for independent and team brainstorm sessions, answering questions without having to do so aloud, and for working out problems without having to use so much paper. My Self-Advocacy class will be reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens this semester and the workbooks listed will help them further application and understanding of what we read. We have been using the same small pencil sharpener for years and could use a higher grade one for our classroom. Items such as the post it notes, highlighters, and clip boards, are used during our literacy times. These materials will also help us with data collection for progress monitoring, which assists in making their goals visual and instills in them a desire to reach them.
