The kidney-shaped table is essential for guided instruction. Gone are the days of direct instruction, with the teacher speaking at the students for 8 hours a day. Students learn best in small groups. In order to effectively start using this teaching method, I NEED a work area that my students and I can sit at together. Also, by having a classroom carpet, students will be able to read and listen to books in a less restrictive environment. As third graders, my students cannot be subjected to sitting at their seats for eight hours a day, five days a week! By having the opportunity to learn in a different area of the classroom, they can better focus on lessons.
