The books on my list serve specific purposes. The One and Only Ivan is a classroom novel set that will be used to not only explore the themes of friendship and hope, but also to challenge students to view the world through other perspectives. The "Who is" book series will allow the students to explore diverse historical figures. The "I Survived" series will encourage students to critically think about world events through first person point of view. When students have a say or choice in the content that they want to learn about, engagement and learning goes through the roof! After making a choice about what they want to learn about from the resources on the list, each student will complete various activities that center around reading and writing. Once the projects are complete, the students will share the information they learned with one another. This will encourage building a cooperative community of learners, critical thinking skills, and creativity.
