If we wish to revolution education, we must meet students where they are and provide learning experiences which mirror the real world. Unfortunately, trends in education are often cyclic. The same strategies and curriculum are often repackaged and brought back creating a treadmill effect, which is often detrimental in creating innovative learners. But using technology in the classroom is still a relatively new concept. This is exciting because we live in a time period where information is at the press of a button. As educators today, we have the opportunity and the potential to do something transformative for our students which has never been done before, and with the rate of change related to technology, won’t be done again. Unfortunately, working at a Title 1 campus, we simply do not have the funds to supply our students with the necessary technology to keep up with the 21st century. Many of my students have trouble navigating Word and Powerpoint let alone utilizing laptops for research based assignments. The ultimate goal of using technology is to provide my students with a tool where they can analyze not only complex issues at the interface of technology and society, but broaden their scope of understanding. This is why I am asking for 4 Chromebooks to create more STEM oriented learners. This is what I believe will be the start of a culture change not only in my classroom, but my campus.
