Our classroom is using the Lucy Calkins Writer's Workshop model in writing class. While we have tables in our classroom for the students to sit, we need a close place where we can gather as a class for the teacher to teach the mini lesson. Typically in a writer's workshop everyone gathers at a carpet to watch and engage as the teacher teaches the mini lesson. Our classroom does not have a carpet to successfully engage the writer's workshop model. While on the carpet students need clipboard to write on to capture notes and ideas. These items together pair up to give our girls the ultimate writer's workshop experience.
