I am requesting three different types of flexible seating for my students: wobble stools, wobble cushions, and comfy floor seats that allow students to move in their chairs as well as floor pads for students to use while participating in instruction in the meeting area (on the floor). A characteristic of individuals with autism is the engagement in self-stimulating behaviors, such as rocking back and forth. Individuals with autism engage in these behaviors as a means of making their bodies feel comfortable and I want to ensure that my students feel that their move about is not an inappropriate behavior for the classroom. By meeting my students where they are at, I am going to be able to teach them to their fullest potential.
