We have the amazing opportunity to take 75 students from the upcoming 8th grade class to the Sierras in an outdoor adventure program. The program integrates classroom learning with the outdoors, providing experiences for our students who have never had or likely will not get many chances to have in the future. It makes their learning real, and encourages them to think deeply about aspects of the outdoors through journal writing and reflection. At school, we are planning to do an integrated unit to start off the year that directly relates to what they will be studying on the trip (habitats, plant cycles, wellness, etc). This 3-day trip will also be an integral bonding experience for the entire class to have together, so it is planned for late September. This trip will provide so many new experiences for our students that cannot happen in the classroom. With very limited resources, we need any help we can get to financially support the trip. Please consider donating, we will be forever thankful.
