Schools, and specifically classrooms, can sometimes feel like uninviting spaces. This is especially true in the urban district where I teach. I want students to have a place in the room where we can meet as a community for discussion, mini lessons, small group work, and where students can enjoy a little bit of comfort during reading and writing workshop. I want the space to feel bright and inviting, and surround it with full bookshelves for students to browse for their next favorite book. Students would be able to lounge on the rug or in the bean bag chairs while reading and I could use the flip chart easel to use modeling in mini lessons and to create anchor charts. These materials would make this learning environment possible.
