If we can get our requested sets of Lego building bricks, minifigures, baseplates, and other supplies this school year, we will be able to begin our after-school Lego Club. I am hoping to meet four times a month for third and fourth graders. I know how students love Legos, so I believe we will have a lot of participants! At our Lego Club meetings a "Challenge" will be revealed and the students will work cooperatively using the bricks to fulfill the challenge requirements. When teaching engineering concepts, using Legos simplifies it because kids already know how to play with the Lego bricks. This means that I can go directly to giving the challenges to create. I think that our students will also become better members and higher-order thinkers as a result.
