Students will be learning about cultural music from various countries as part of a geography as music unit. This unit will begin in December and continue until February. The goal of this project is to make students more aware of the music of other cultures. This project will bring this world closer together by teaching the new generation to appreciate and respect other people and cultures. With more guitars, students will have the opportunity to learn as a class, instead of having to constantly wait their turn as one guitar is shared with an entire class. Students will begin by learning about the rhythms and melodies of music from Korea and will make cultural masks to wear while they play guitar. Students will then learn about the origin and music of a Spanish guitar. Students will be immersed in multiple cultures by being a part of the unique cultural music of each country. Students will learn some background information for each country, engage in an expressive related activity, and learn the guitar music associated with the country.
