The purpose of this project is to build a classroom library that students will want to visit. Having a selection of books to choose from in the classroom will allow students more opportunity for growth as they will have continuous access to knowledge at their fingertips! Studies suggest that increased reading leads to improved performance. Test scores do not make the world go 'round, but knowledge does! Reading books, whether fiction or nonfiction, teaches students many things that might not otherwise be taught within the traditional classroom setting and introduces them to the world! One of my favorite quotes is, "Reading gives you somewhere to go when you have to stay where you are." Many of my students do not have the opportunity to travel and learn about people and places outside of our rural area. Giving them access to more books will enable them to learn about people, places, and ideas without having to leave the comfort of a cozy seat.
