As an English Language Arts teacher, it's important that my students have access to literature in which they can see themselves and other members of society to build empathy. In my classroom library, I want to be able to​ provide books where students can engage with characters who are like them or can learn from them. Books like The Hate U Give, My Family Divided, and Americanized are just a few of the titles that relate to student experiences in some capacity. Whether it's reading at home, in ELA class, or during our twice a week Silent Sustained Reading time, I can't wait for students to dive in and talk about what they read.
