These requested center materials will allow for small group instruction and independent learning to occur in my classroom. With the implementation of centers, guided reading groups can occur with tailored instruction according to their specific reading level. While I work with a small group of students, the other students will independently work in different centers. These centers allow my students to take charge of their own learning and receive differentiated literacy instruction. These centers can include activities in word work, listening, library, writing or computers. The leveled library will contain texts that the students can read independently according to their reading level. The boombox, headphones, and books on CD will serve as a listening center for the students to listen and follow along to books being read to them. These materials will make centers possible. Once centers are part of the daily routine, students build independence and confidence in their own reading abilities. The other classroom basics, such as anchor chart paper, organizers and art supplies ensure that every student can access the material. These materials will allow for visual, auditory, sensory and kinesthetic learners to succeed in my classroom. A classroom timer will allow for a consistent and fast-paced learning environment. When I teach with a structured schedule and a sense of urgency, students remain present and engaged. With their constant engagement and participation, we can achieve so much in Kindergarten!
