Our school and our community have come together and both agreed that they want their students to be better prepared for life as a 21st-century citizen by enhancing their critical thinking and collaboration skills. Breakout boxes supply the tools needed to support teachers in creating problem-based learning activities that engage students and requires them to persevere in critical thinking. Students have to work together as a team to "break out" of their boxes. The problems for the boxes are designed to take student learning to the next level and provide great practice for a newly learned skill. I've seen firsthand how challenging these boxes can be, but the students are so proud of themselves when they finally get it! Using breakout boxes as a learning tool will help our family of learners to grow in so many ways together.
