We need more books. There needs to be a rich selection of materials to be an active part of the classroom and grow great readers. In our school, we use a curriculum that requires students to provide their own texts and suggests we provide 2500 books. My current classroom library has only 250 books, and it is not meeting the needs of the students. We need more "Just Right Books." Just right books are books meet the needs of a student's independent reading level. They are required to bring them to class everyday. Without these books, students are unable to participate fully in class. My classroom library is unable to sustain the amount of students checking out books. If we have more books students can find their reading interests and grow their reading interests. A limited supply of books can often lead to students sticking with only one genre, or abandoning reading altogether. In my school, 50% of our students are in the free and reduced-price lunch program. Through observation and research I have selected these thirty-seven books that I know will interest my students. With this project, my classroom library can continue to be place that my students will enjoy. Students who read can continue to use my super cute reading corner and cushioned bench (that I made myself). We read on the carpet together, they complete work there, and most importantly...they read independently! It's their favorite place in class!
