My students need shared access to duo-scope microscopes to allow them to better engage with scientific material that operates on a microscopic scale. Access to microscopes would support educational equity in our community by allowing my students the opportunity to engage in a rigorous curriculum with the support of scientific instruments and technology. Access to shared microscopes will allow my seventh-grade students to engage closely with our NGSS aligned curriculum learning about geosciences and ecosystems. Magnification will allow my students to differentiate between the microscopic properties of different types of rocks, and to observe the ecological interactions of species in microbiomes. Exposure to the magnified world around us will provide an excellent opportunity for students to participate in engaging lessons and projects. Learning the basic technical skills associated with using microscopes in middle school will successfully prepare my students for their high school careers and onward.
