First grade is a very crucial year for literacy as they are expected to master many foundational skills in order to begin reading complex material. Children who don’t read by the end of first grade only have a one in eight chance of catching up. The literacy vocabulary file folder and sight word bingo set I have chosen are differentiated, meaning the students can choose which activity fits their learning the best. The math centers will be used during small group time. The Pick a Problem Math Warm-up Box is helpful for targeting Common Core State Standards and supporting students who may need extra practice. The Addition Machine, and Number Bond Snap and Slide activities will support students with strengthening two foundational skills first graders will primarily use to learn addition and subtraction fluency throughout the entire year. Even in a world where standardized scores are everything, my main focus is to create and help build lifelong learners in ways that they learn best. It is my hope that the differentiated learning centers, learning activities, and manipulatives will do just that. By donating to this project, you are truly helping my students who need these hands-on experiences to make connections and find and create ways that fit their way of learning!
