My students need to hear fluent English as they are learning to read. Having headphones for the computers and listening center will enable them to focus on the task they are doing. Listening to books being read to them will help improve fluency. My students will also use the headphones while they are on the computer completing intervention programs. These programs provide students with lessons at their "just right" level whether it is at, above, or below grade level. Students do better when they are able to hear their lessons, rather than having to struggle to read the words. These headphones will benefit my ESL students and struggling reads, as well as the rest of my class.
