My school has a number of children from low income families who come to school with a variety of delays and needs. I work with numerous groups throughout the day ranging from K4 through 8th grade which makes planning ahead challenging due to the wide variety of activities needed. While older children are used to paper and pen activities, the younger children need manipulatives to remain focused. The majority of my students come to school needing emotional, physical and academic assistance that they may not get in their home environments. School becomes their only consistent activity with consistent adults who strive to meet their needs. It can be difficult to provide what each student needs while also meeting school wide expectations.
