A listening center is an integral part of any primary classroom. Listening centers allow students to enjoy books that are above their reading level and promote active listening skills. More importantly, a listening center helps promote fluency as students hear reading modeled by a fluent reader while they track print across the pages. I believe that every primary classroom should be equipped with a listening center so that students have the opportunity to practice these skills! With these new CD players, headphone splitters, and audiobooks, my students' love for books will grow as they are exposed to books that are not usually accessible to them, and in turn, their reading fluency will increase.
