I am the Counselor at Douglass Mid-High; primarily my students are 7th-8th grade but there are times when I may see a high school student. At any time during my students' educational experience here their chances of losing placement from their homes can happen and be very traumatic. Once we have identified a student as experiencing a disruption in their living environment we advocate on their behalf to access any and all services that will return their circumstances to as close as possible to normal. But it is during that time that the experience can often leave them emotionally and physically taxed. Taking into consideration that we have one nurse only 2 days a week my hope is that I can provide a space for them to re-generate for a few minutes or rest while they wait to be picked up when sick. I have a corner in my office that will allow for a recovery couch; this would allow for them to rest comfortably.
