"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss Reading is fundamental. Your love for reading is defined at an early age by what we read, how much we read, and where we read. One of my goals as a Kindergarten teacher this year is to help my students learn to love to read. A world of adventure, exploration, and imagination is available to them through books. During our day, we spend time reading and learning to read. We use centers around the room to help us move and experience learning. One of our centers is the classroom library center. Students will come and read here. My project is centered around creating an inviting space for them to come and read as well as the resources they can use to help all students develop a love for reading. The rug will be the center of that space and allow them to read in a comfortable nook. Toobaloo phones are a great way for students to hear themselves as they read to practice fluency. Additional fluency practice will occur through a listening center at a computer. The headphone junction box will allow up to 8 students to listen to a text being read to them by a fluent reader at the same time. Through the use of engaging books, flexible seating options, and other resources and manipulatives, students will be able to engage in the text in a way that they couldn't before.
