During a chorus performance last year, it broke my heart when two young ladies that worked really hard on their solos, could not be heard past the front two rows of our auditorium. It was then that I decided to collaborate with my then co-teacher and our principal on ways to resolve this issue so that all of our students can be heard when showcasing what they’ve practiced. As the music teacher here at a Title One Elementary School, I believe that having a reliable sound system increases the quality of performance by students. Their confidence skyrockets when they feel like they can be heard by the people in the back of the auditorium during a performance. In the year that I've been at this Title One Elementary, I've had to bring my personal PA sound system every time the chorus and/or drama team had a program or performed during a school event. Our school has not had a new PA system in over ten years and maybe even longer than that. This is much more than a wish list item, it is an absolute MUST. With a school of over 750 kids, anytime you have a combination of parents, families, and friends at an event, and put them into a larger space, it can be hard to keep the audience engaged if they cannot hear their own children singing or acting.
