Students in my classes are using more and more technology. None have had the experience of bringing their creations to life, like a 3D printer would allow. Adding a 3D printer to my classroom would pull more kids in and encourage the creative side. The Bridge Building and Catapult Building STEM challenges are common and push students to think outside of the box. My students are using technology more and more in each of their classes, however, I would like to take them back to hands-on building. STEM challenges push students to use problem solving skills that many children struggle with today. Also, students will have to work as a group, listen to other ideas, and communicate the pro's and con's before building their bridges and catapults. Taking a week off from the curriculum and working on life skills of communication, team work, and problem solving, all while having fun building, this is what I want to bring to my students.
