The class set of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline will enable over 160 students to have access to a book that is relevant to them. Moreover, it allows them to learn as a team, increasing their sense of community. The learning will be fun, but it will also be action packed both in the book and in the knowledge they will gain. The students will be working harder than they ever have before, and they will have fun pushing themselves above and beyond goals they never thought possible. The majority of the students in my classes are lower level, but Ready Player One is even higher than they know they are capable of reading. It is engaging enough to drive them to want more, and it is diverse enough to differentiate instruction for all levels as they grow throughout the reading. Before they know it, they have increased their reading levels and are mastering their high school reading requirement and preparing themselves for college. Beyond just meeting a high school level goal, the supplementary readings and tasks that will accompany this novel will push these students over the top so they are ready to tackle college. On a deeper level, this book can even help them fall in love with reading. This book is the first step to help them reach goals they never thought possible, and they just need a little help from you.
