Young children need to develop a solid understanding of numbers, the relationship to other numbers and how to use numbers to solve problems. Students need lots of experiences with various models and practice manipulating numbers. This early learning is essential for building strategies for later learning. By donating to our project, you will help to secure these important understandings and increase math achievement in number sense and beyond! Through interesting visuals during instruction and using manipulatives in game-like experiences, second graders are motivated to communicate and work collaboratively while developing math skills. The Rekenrek model provides a visual model using two strings of 10 beads 5-red and 5-white. This model encourages thinking in groups of five and ten, counting-on and other strategies for adding and subtracting. The Tenzi Dice offer a multitude of game options to motivate learners while working and communicating in collaborative groups building number sense skills, understanding and problem solving. Additionally, the Gymnic Movin' Sit Jr. Inflatable Seat Cushions and Bouncy Bands for Desks will offer additional support those students with attention and movement needs during math instruction and collaborative work. My goal is to acquire additional classroom materials for this important math learning, as well as provide seating options to support students. Young students are more apt to collaborate with others, attempt creative challenges and build stamina with learning when they are motivated and engaged.
