You know that old Pringles slogan, "Once you pop, you just can't stop"? I want to create this kind of addiction to reading in my classroom, and these highly engaging series sets are going to help me do it! Literacy experts agree that series are a great way to get reluctant readers hooked on reading. They get one taste of Percy Jackson, Alex Rider, Red Rhino or Artemis Fowl, and they want to read the next one and the next and the one after that! And, without even realizing, by the end of the series, they have expanded their imaginations, doubled their vocabulary, learned to be a better friend, to have more courage, to stand up for what's right, and a slew of other life lessons, all because they picked up Book 1 of a series. Having easy access to a wide variety of series from authors like Chris Crutcher and Walter Dean Myers, is going to give my reluctant readers a gateway to a lifetime of engaged reading that will permeate and permanently enhance their personal and professional lives.
