To turn kids into readers, kids need books! These novels will make it possible for me to do novel studies with two grades. As a teacher, I know I have to hook these kids from the start of the book. “Long Way Down” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” are timely stories that can engage young readers. By donating to this project, you are helping these students gain access to new experiences through print and providing them with an opportunity to learn different literary conventions in engaging ways. Using these works for novel studies will allow me to introduce concepts like voice, theme, bias, and mood. As a teacher, I will be able to build interesting lessons around what my students are reading. Not only will they work on literacy skills, they will also build upon writing. These novel studies will touch upon several skills. As a performing arts school, both novels allow the opportunity for my classes to tie in art elements with the novels.
