I teach science to third graders. I want them to know they are scientists and try to give them hands on experiences with science materials and tools as much as possible. To be true scientists, third graders need the right equipment! I am asking for funding to provide them with microscopes and slides. These will be used often as we explore the world around us, whether it be in an applied science unit on science and technology, a life science unit on animals, or an earth science unit on rocks and soil. Having a microscope center available for students during science time will enable them to not only learn how to use this valuable piece of equipment, but to be able to make discoveries on their own. Imagine their excitement when they are able to see the grain differences between types of igneous rocks, or to be able to see the particles of plants that can be found in soil, or to explore the body parts of insects. Microscopes can open up a whole new world for them that previously they had only read about in our science text. Any help we can get to make this possible would be greatly appreciated!
